The Big Picture

Recently, I’ve talked about affirmations and goals I’ve mentioned time after time after time. Now it’s time to see the big picture! The big picture is really your “WHY.” I just had this AHA moment the other day. It just kind of hit me in the brain as I was driving to or from work. Yes, I guess my mind wanders on that thirty mile commute! I was thinking about how we always hear about having a “why” for doing this business. I could never come up with one. (more…)

Affirmations Create Accountability

For the longest time I have not been able to create an affirmation for myself. I have heard time and time again that having a daily affirmation or mantra will help one to reach her goals. I could never get behind it. I think I was stuck in this vision that affirmations are a little cheesy and cheery and don’t sound like anything I would say. Many I have seen, heard, and read feel like cheers or pep talks and I’m not good at those. I have on posted on my sidebar that sounds like a rhyme and a cheer. It’s good, but it’s not something I can get in the habit of saying daily. There is also the dreaded suggestion of recording oneself saying the affirmation and then listening to it repeatedly such as in the car. That kind of thing gives me the creeps for some reason. Then, I attended a workshop with my NSD back in April. My opinion and understanding of an affirmation was transformed. (more…)

Staying Focused on Goals

Tonight our unit had a potluck dinner at my director’s house instead of a regular meeting. We did this to go over last year’s accomplishments and the new year’s goals. We were asked to bring our goal posters if we had them. I found this to be the perfect opportunity to grab my magnetic dry erase board and get that put together again. It’s an effortless goal poster. My director and friends had really nice posterboards with pictures and such pasted to them. I am not so good with glue. ;) I love that I can just move stuff around and not have to throw the whole thing out and start from scratch. How very…green? (more…)

Got Goals?

This comes a little late in the month, I know. July is the start of the new fiscal year and in MaryKayland, that is also the start of our Seminar contest year. Every year we talk about new goals and getting a fresh start on the new year. In the past I’ll admit it was all fun and games and everything kinda went in one ear and out the other. Yes, I made some goals, but I didn’t see any urgency so I didn’t really go for them. It’s been just about five years since I signed my agreement to take up a new hobby. Back then I just wanted a hobby and didn’t see any reason to pursue my business any further than that. There is nothing wrong with that. I think this is how many if not most consultants get started. I think that is fine. It allows freedom to work how they want. I’m glad for that. These past two years have made me rethink my approach to my hobby and I have decided to work the business aspect more. As I was making this transition I realized, “Hey! It’s July! The new year is just starting. What fabulous timing!” So, I have some very lofty goals. (more…)

Daily Wins

Have a daily win. These are words I’ve heard from NSD Kathy Helou time and time again. What does that mean? What is a daily win? It’s essential to keep going in this business. If we don’t find a positive aspect in our businesses each day, we will lose the drive to keep going. Having a daily win is essential to staying focused and determined.

So, this is what I’m talking about: my current goal for November is 30 faces. I believe this will keep me on track for 3+3+3 program. The monthly goal needs to be broken down. So, I need to schedule to see 7-9 faces each week. Let’s say in week 1 I hold 3 classes and see 10 faces. In week 2 I have a class postpone and another cancel and I hold a facial. I have to hold onto that facial as a positive. If my daily goal is $100 in retail sales and I miss it one day and sell $40; rather than despair that I have “only sold” $40; and how could I have not sold $100. I need to embrace that small victory. That is a daily win! Had I not made the $100 goal, I most likely would have sold nothing. $40 is much better than $0!

Always get excited about the things you accomplish! Do not allow yourself to get caught up in what didn’t happen. This can cause business paralysis.

Announcing DIQ Goals!

Well, I have officially informed my director of my DIQ by December goal! I’m excited and scared (but that’s what good goals are supposed to do, right?). I definitely have the urgency and I’m already started down the booking path. I have an appointment next Thursday. Yay! I have some other interested customers. I’ve been taking orders. Next step–interviews! I have made my goal known to friends and family. Here is what my director had to say: (more…)

Make Practice Worthwhile

This article sheds new light on the concept of practicing any skill. Practicing for the sake of going through the motions is just that. Going through motions. In order to actually sharpen one’s skills, one must practice with gusto! Determining the weaknesses and working to improve them is what makes practice worthwhile until, finally, striving for perfection is the regular goal. Read on:

Normal Chaos

You have probably heard it said by someone wanting you to

repeat a monotonous activity that “practice makes perfect.”

As many times as you and I may have heard this, it is quite

simply not true. Practice does not make perfect. Practice

makes consistent. (more…)

Balance

This is a long article, but it so says what I am trying to portray in my blog(s). Originally, when I started this blog, I wanted to include everything in one blog to illustrate that life has many different defining aspects for each individual. What I have learned is that in order to truly balance one’s life, these all must be managed separately. At least, for me they do. :) My point is, you can’t eat, sleep, and breathe one thing all the time or you will drive others away. Sometimes, we have to do that to reach a certain goal. I used to eat, sleep, and breathe ballet. I wouldn’t call it obsession. It was more like strong determination. And dance instructors will drive you and drive you especially if they see you have potential. (Does this sound like something else? Anyone? Anyone?) I may elaborate more on this at another time. For now, please enjoy this article about balancing life. :D (more…)
