Somewhere on another post I was asked by MKheart how I fit my business into my schedule around my full time job and my life. I didn’t get a chance to answer there so I have created a new post. It is rather postworthy, after all. I just made up a new word. (more…)
One of my biggest challenges in, well, life is managing my time effectively. I’m pretty astute at wasting time. My goal is to get myself onto a good work schedule in both my Mary Kay business and in my personal life. I have always followed the guidelines I’ve heard from multiple directors, my own included. The biggest rule I follow is to color code my datebook. Everything has its own highlighter color. Mary Kay office time is pink; time at my day job is blue (fitting); sales appointments are green (and this includes my meetings so I am reminded to invite guests); alone time for myself is yellow; and Hubby’s time is orange (yes, Hubby feels important with his own color on the schedule). There seems to be at times, a misunderstanding of what constitutes a loss and what it means to profit from this business. I’m going to do my utmost best to make this clear. This is going to be an outline of what to expect if you decide to stock some inventory. I have a feeling that the majority of people reading this already know this; however, you never really know who’s reading so I’m going to post it. This information can also be very helpful when talking to new team members about the inventory options and giving them a clearer picture of what to expect. This also may help to relieve worries of those who may feel they have too much inventory or what not.
I also would like to point out that I’m going to show this from the point of view of someone, like myself, who starts this business as a hobby that can make some money. This reflects someone who may not be confident in their ability to sell a product and are starting out seriously, yet allowing time for growth. (more…)
I’m making a To Do List for this week. So far I have:
Monday
Deliver products. Invite guests to Tuesday’s meeting.
Tuesday
Invite guests to meeting. Book appointments for November. Attend meeting.
Wednesday
See if fish bowl locations are open. If so, inquire about placing fishbowls.
Thursday
Work late at J-O-B.
Friday
Non-business day.
Saturday
Mail invitations for November 24, class.
That’s all I’ve got so far. I’m working on accountability here. I don’t have much to work with at the moment. I need to find new leads. I am going to attempt 5 new contacts each day as well.
I’ll be the first to admit that I am not an organized individual by any stretch. For some reason, however, my director and her director perceive me as an organized person. To what do I owe this status? I think it comes solely from time management training I’ve had from them and from owning my Mary Kay datebook. Since joining Mary Kay Cosmetics, I have become far more skilled at time management. I do think part of it stems from my busy childhood. I always had lessons of some sort–piano lessons, ballet, gymnastics, and horseback riding, to name a few. This caused my thinking to shift to things I have to do each day and how to fit everything else into place. (more…)
I’ve been having trouble getting on the phone to book. So I’ve compiled some different booking approaches I’ve heard over the years. These are approaches that can be used as games of sorts. Sometimes, it’s helpful to make a game of an undesirable task (sounds very Mary Poppins, doesn’t it). These are some tactics I’m going to try to see if it helps me get on the horn and get some bookings! (more…)
Last week at my success meeting, we heard about a retreat that was held at Elite Executive Senior Sales Director, Linda Bradley’s home. Apparently, she shared some time management tips. We heard the ideas from a consultant (and friend of mine) who was in attendance. I was intrigued by what she shared. (more…)
This installment had a lot of typos in it. Hopefully, I’ve corrected them all. This is really good for managing time and determining which tasks are most important, what can be done by someone else, and what can wait til another time. (more…)
I started this series quite some time ago. I forgot all about it! I’ll catch you up. My director has been posting these on her website. It’s called “Eat That Frog!” and it comes from Brian Tracy. This little lesson is about making a list and working the plan through. Sound familiar? (more…)
