Since the holidays are literally just around the corner it is time to think about holiday selling and still working through the hussle and bustle of the holiday season. I’ll admit, in the past I have always been intimidated by November and December. The first year I was working my business I did a craft bazaar at a church and when I called the leads many were too busy due to holiday plans. This year (5 years later) is different! For the first time I am READY for the season and will take control of the situation. (more…)
Wow! I’ve been away a long time. I apologize for my extended absence. On the one hand, I was busy working my business! On the other hand, I was also dealing with CFS. Basically, I’ve been working my business consistently since July and the extra oomph has been wearing me out when coupled with my day job. Fortunately, I have put myself on a vitamin regimen and made some simple lifestyle changes (more sleep) and I’ve come out of my little funk. It’s great to be back! (more…)
Well, September came and went and now it is October. Can you believe it? I can’t. Last night I was going over my datebook planning my work schedule in disbelief that I was looking at October and November! Unbelievable. Where has the year gone? My September was quite productive. I’m happy with my results. I set some goals. My faces goal was fifteen faces. I did seven faces. This was actually one more face than last month. My retail sales goal was $2000. My actual retail sales came in right around $600. So, I missed my goals, but I still made money. How did you do in September? (more…)
Back on my topic about goal posters, it came up that many of us (myself included) have trouble with tracking. This is the first quarter I’m tracking my goals. Yes, after five years in this business, I’m going to do some tracking and see where I land. I’m tracking many things. The first thing I’m focusing on is, of course, my sales. I’m committed to selling $3000 retail in August. I’m off to a good start. I have a silent hostess out and I sold $60 this weekend. I’m working on getting more silent hostesses out there. (more…)
What keeps your customers loyal to you? How do you ensure that another less scrupulous consultant won’t be able to swoop down and take customers right out of our customer base? The answer is customer service. If you build a strong relationship with your customers and listen to their needs and wants; they won’t dream of buying their products from anyone but you. (more…)
This comes a little late in the month, I know. July is the start of the new fiscal year and in MaryKayland, that is also the start of our Seminar contest year. Every year we talk about new goals and getting a fresh start on the new year. In the past I’ll admit it was all fun and games and everything kinda went in one ear and out the other. Yes, I made some goals, but I didn’t see any urgency so I didn’t really go for them. It’s been just about five years since I signed my agreement to take up a new hobby. Back then I just wanted a hobby and didn’t see any reason to pursue my business any further than that. There is nothing wrong with that. I think this is how many if not most consultants get started. I think that is fine. It allows freedom to work how they want. I’m glad for that. These past two years have made me rethink my approach to my hobby and I have decided to work the business aspect more. As I was making this transition I realized, “Hey! It’s July! The new year is just starting. What fabulous timing!” So, I have some very lofty goals. (more…)
One of my readers voiced her concerns that she is getting orders for the old compacts because they are discovering some of the old eye and cheek colors. Since the old compacts are on the discontinued list and many are not available, how do we address this dilemma? I have some suggestions and this board is open to others as always.
If someone has just discovered Sunny Spice and is in love, but she needs the compact and you’re out of the old version it can be quite frustrating. My first suggestion would be to check the Discontinued Section 1 items on InTouch. It is my understanding that only the Custom Compact is still available. The next suggestion is to talk to your director or sister consultants and see if anyone has one you can trade. I am not above helping each other out in these situations.
This is something I sent out on email to my customers. If it appeals to you, you may copy it for yourself. In the email, I linked to my website for each of the highlighted products. I may convert it to word and mail it, too–with the exception of the December 7, deadline. Anyway, just thought I’d share: (more…)
Did you know there are more than 12 days left until Christmas? I wasn’t even paying attention. There are actually 13 more shopping days left. That is a lot of time and tonight at my meeting, my eyes were opened to so many possibilities that I just have to share my new knowledge! Once a month, our unit joins 5 or 6 other units for a large training session. Tonight was the December night! I was able to train with directors I don’t see on a weekly basis. It was excellent. Have you ever mentioned to someone that you are a Mary Kay Consultant and received an eyeroll in response? Or, maybe you told a close friend or relative you’ve decided to become a Mary Kay Consultant and her response was less than *ahem* enthusiastic. It can be a powerful deflator, can’t it? Our toughest customers are the people who know us best because they know us from way back when we couldn’t sell enough candy for girl scouts! What begins to happen is an internalization of any adversity or rejection. We take it personally. It simply can’t be taken personally. Most likely, it has nothing to do with us. (more…)
