What makes a good director good? What makes a bad director so terrible? Sometimes the interpretation of good and bad is relative. What one person may perceive as a weakness, someone else may perceive as a strength. For instance, some directors have a good heart, but may lack in the organization area. To me, I would perceive her as a good director. Someone who works with her people, formulates relationships with her unit, and doesn’t give one notion that she views us as dollar signs. To me, that is a director I want to work with. She may be disorganized. For example, she may offer a prize and then time escapes her and when those who have earned the prize are ready to receive, it may be delayed. Some could get annoyed by this; especially if it happens often. My take, however, is prize mishaps are forgiveable. When I earn prizes, I’m usually not focused on what the prize is. Now and then, I am; however, for the most part I have my own set goals and I want to achieve those goals. If I happen to win something in the process, that’s a great bonus! If the prize is delayed or something happens where it changes, it doesn’t get me down. Some people are not like me and are upset when these things happen; understandably so. But, does disorganization necessarily make a director bad? It probably depends on your personality type. (more…)
It is the business of a Mary Kay® Independent Beauty Consultant to enrich women’s lives. We not only accomplish this through introduction of a great product. We do this by building our customers’ self esteem as well as our team. Anyone we put the product on is a potential team member. I’m not saying go out and recruit everyone you know. What I’m saying is, that in many cases, we are the only Mary Kay® people our customers know. How we behave is so important. If we are meeting a lot of people and working a full time business, we must be on our best behavior at all times. By doing this, it will ingrain that behavior into natural habit. That is what the Mary Kay® Image is all about. Not only looking good, but acting graciously. How we behave plants seeds in the thoughts of others as far as what Mary Kay® represents. Our actions not only impress upon our customers, but also our sister consultants! (more…)

Last week at my success meeting, we heard about a retreat that was held at Elite Executive Senior Sales Director, Linda Bradley’s home. Apparently, she shared some time management tips. We heard the ideas from a consultant (and friend of mine) who was in attendance. I was intrigued by what she shared. (more…)
We have all encountered obstacles in running our businesses as well as in life. How we handle setbacks can be a determinant in our success. Maintaining focus on the initial goal can be a challenge when we are sidelined by illness, an accident, family drama, etc. The ability to rise above the turmoil and maintain focus on the task at hand, is golden. If you read about successful people, you will find that many of them perservered in spite of hardships they had to endure. Their concerns for the situation didn’t lessen nor did their determination of meeting the goal. I think at times, it seems that people who have strong ambitions in their professions are perceived by others as callous or uncaring when they are able to bounce back and continue their work once the initial shock as subsided. This is not the case. They simply have not lost focus:

Leverage Your Special Talents
YOU ARE REMARKABLE! You have special talents and abilities that make you different from every other person who has ever lived. Your job is to identify your special areas of uniqueness and then to commit yourself to becoming very, very good in those areas.
Do you have skills that need closer attention than others? Do you have an area that needs work? This article in the “Eat that Frog” series is about just that. Strengthening our weaknesses makes us more confident. Having more confidence makes us more willing to jump into action!
Eat that Frog—Tip 9

Do your Homework
Learn what you need to learn so that you can do your work in an excellent fashion…the better you become at ‘eating a particular type of frog’, the more likely you are to just plunge in and GET IT DONE!
These are great tips for being prepared. I do my best to get ready for appointments the night before. Read on:
Eat that Frog!

Tip 8
Prepare Thoroughly Before you Begin
One of the best ways for you to overcome procrastination and get more things done faster—have everything you need at hand before you begin. By being prepared, you just need one small mental push to get started on your HIGHEST VALUE TASK (or ugliest frog!)
This is very similar to preparing that Thanksgiving Day Dinner…you begin with your menu …then make a ‘list’ of items /food necessary, shop, then the big day…you have all the ingredients on the counter in front of you and begin putting the dinner together…one step at a time.
Some of these frog things are getting repetitive. I may not continue to post them. They are good, just repetitive.
Eat that Frog—Tip 7
Obey the Law of Forced Efficiency
The Law of Forced Efficiency says…”There is never enough time to do everything, but there is always enough time to do the most important thing.”
