Somewhere on another post I was asked by MKheart how I fit my business into my schedule around my full time job and my life. I didn’t get a chance to answer there so I have created a new post. It is rather postworthy, after all. I just made up a new word. (more…)
This story was sent to me by my director today in an email. It is so intriguing and so relevant to our business (or any business endeavor, really). All to often we are wishing we have what others have. We feel like we are left behind while others are prospering. I think the following article very clearly shows why the grass may only seem greener on someone else’s pasture. Please enjoy the article and share what you think: (more…)
Across the board, I am seeing a lot of mistakes made with inventory orders. I am sure we have all been there. I know I have made a mistake here and there. I’ve decided to dedicate this post to helpful ideas and tips for placing inventory orders–from the initial order to restocking orders. We don’t want to order more than we can handle, but we don’t want to come up short either. Which is better? In my opinion, I think it’s OK to come up short. I do think it is smart business practice to have an inventory, but there are good ways and bad ways to achieve inventory. Here, I am going to make some suggestions that I feel are useful for keeping inventory under control and manageable–both product-wise and money-wise. (more…)
OK. After much debate, I’ve decided to go ahead and post this. I will preface this by saying, I’m not preaching my own beliefs to anyone and in no way expect anyone to agree with me. I happen to disagree that business and religion should mix. The following is my explanation to why.
There are two things one should not readily discuss. Those two things are politics and religion. These two topics almost inevitably lead to conflict and possibly hurt feelings. Why? Because people tend to feel strongly about their beliefs on both issues. It can lead to flagrant, unnecessary conflicts as well. It happens all around the world. So what does this have to do with Mary Kay? (more…)
Perfect article from Get Motivation if you struggle with setting goals. I had trouble with goal setting for quite a long time. My biggest issue was always figuring out what short-term goals were necessary to work toward the long-term goal. (more…)
Have you ever mentioned to someone that you are a Mary Kay Consultant and received an eyeroll in response? Or, maybe you told a close friend or relative you’ve decided to become a Mary Kay Consultant and her response was less than *ahem* enthusiastic. It can be a powerful deflator, can’t it? Our toughest customers are the people who know us best because they know us from way back when we couldn’t sell enough candy for girl scouts! What begins to happen is an internalization of any adversity or rejection. We take it personally. It simply can’t be taken personally. Most likely, it has nothing to do with us. (more…)
Ever gone to meeting after meeting, listened to call after call, attended event after event; and felt like everything was so redundant? Does it ever feel disappointing when you attend an event or listen in on a conference call expecting to hear something amazing that will give you that breakthrough AHA moment only to reach an anticlimax of stuff you already know? Does this mean there’s no hope? Has every method been tried and failed? Is it time to throw in the towel and call it quits? Or, is it time to step back, reflect and really analyze what you’ve been doing all this time? I think it’s that last option. It’s time to re-evaluate the game plan and see what action is taking place. (more…)
Realistically speaking, I think I have to rethink my DIQ agenda. I stated I want to submit DIQ in December. Given my lack of bookings coming through for November, I don’t know if that’s realistic. I’m still charging for it full speed ahead, however, I’m making plans to what to do next if I don’t meet it. I have 2 bookings for November. I’m not sure I’ll even get the 30 faces, but I’m surely going to try! I’m going to work right through the holiday season and see where I wind up. Perhaps I’ll be submitting in January. My definitive goal is to debut as a director by Career Conference. If I keep my current momentum, I can see that happening for real!
I believe in the adage “goals are written in stone; deadlines are written in sand.” Is this giving up? Certainly not! It’s simply planning ahead and making room for the success! My goal is my goal no matter what. When that goal comes to fruition may change. All I can do is work at it as hard as I can and keep building results. I’ll get it done! Maybe not as early as planned, but it will happen!
I’ll be the first to admit that I am not an organized individual by any stretch. For some reason, however, my director and her director perceive me as an organized person. To what do I owe this status? I think it comes solely from time management training I’ve had from them and from owning my Mary Kay datebook. Since joining Mary Kay Cosmetics, I have become far more skilled at time management. I do think part of it stems from my busy childhood. I always had lessons of some sort–piano lessons, ballet, gymnastics, and horseback riding, to name a few. This caused my thinking to shift to things I have to do each day and how to fit everything else into place. (more…)
