Every year I heavily RESEARCH WINTER & HOLIDAY MAKEUP TIPS and these are the BEST TIPS that I found for this year! Since we need to focus on MOVING COLOR these should be VERY HELPFUL! KNOWLEDGE IS POWER! ENJOY!!!
Skin care routine and cosmetics for winters need to undergo a heavy makeover for the chilly cold season. You need to look more glamorous and more polished during the season. Matte understated shades such as coffee, chocolate and smoky shades for eyes and berry tones for lips and cheeks replace the fresh summer face. Gloss is in again and so are our beloved fruity and spicy tones of cosmetics. Velvety shades are the way to go for a winter woman. Here are some tips you can use this Christmas season:
- A bit of sheen on eyes can be used too for a change, if you are using nude shades; while on lips, it can help your lips to look more voluptuous.
- Either your moisturizer or your foundation should have broad-spectrum sun protection factor to block UV sunrays that do not leave our skin alone even for winters. Matt finish foundation is better for winders.
- Smokey eyes look best in winters and you can use eye shadows in cinnamon and coffee shades for sultry effect.
- Black mascaras make a comeback every winter season. A dark brown shade of waterproof mascara is a multipurpose product too.
- Tinted lip balms in honey, blackberry and red currant tones look great too in winters.
- Tinted Loose or Pressed Powder is great for winters.
- Use ample amount of skin-priming moisturizers, especially meant for winters, on your face that may have properties to exfoliate gently and lower concentration of alpha hydroxy acids. Night cream should be heavy for winters.
For winter makeup color, think rich! Jewel tones and luxurious browns are great for winter because they make up for the color you don’t usually have when the weather turns icy. More important than ever—moisturize! Changes in temperatures (inside with the heater to outside where it’s freezing, then back to your car where you turn the heater on, etc) can dry your skin out fast. Keep it smooth, and flaunt that fair skin—just don’t forget to protect it; UV rays still penetrate your skin even if it’s not hot outside. A good moisturizer with SPF 15 (at least) will keep you hydrated and looking young.
For skin, use the lightest coverage you feel comfortable in. Fair skin is beautiful if it’s radiant so trade in the cappuccinos for water frequently and exfoliate once or twice a week with a Microdermabrasion.
Apply concealer where you need it and blend. Now you’re ready to start adding color.
For cheeks, mauves and berries from the apples of your cheeks swept up to the temples and blended to the hairline look best. Redheads and those with yellow undertones may want to consider a coral-pink instead of a berry tone. For contour, brush a medium tone blush where you normally would, put a slightly darker shade underneath in the hollow under your cheekbones, and a lighter shade above the cheekbones. Bronze highlighting powder can be used as a highlighter or all over the face for a shimmery glow.
The darker your skin, the darker your blush should be but, try popping the apples of your cheeks with a lighter/brighter color to add WARMTH.
For eyes, use shadow colors like golden or chocolate brown, purple, berry, and mauve. Grays are good, as well, for a smoky eye effect, popular at winter night get-togethers. During the winter be careful with the pastels if you’re exceptionally pale because they can make you look more washed out. Try one color all over or mix them up. To make it simple, you can also buy duets, and quads with colors meant to be worn together. That way you can’t go wrong. Black eyeliner can be the finishing touch with any eye color/shadow combination. If you want to be adventurous, dabble in deep colored liners like navy, plum, hunter green, or brown. Navy makes blue eyes pop, plum makes green eyes & brown eyes stand out, also hazel and brown eyes look good in just about any color. Finish up with a fresh mascara. (always purchase a new Mascara every 3 months)
For lips, use more berries and plums. Adding this color to your lips automatically adds more colors to your cheeks and sparkle to your eyes. Added bonus: they make your teeth look whiter because they’re blue-based. As with the blush, redheads and those with yellow undertones may want to try a coral-pink lipstick instead. Winter’s also a good time to experiment with reds!!! Just make sure to go light on the eye makeup if you’re wearing a red lipstick or gloss (a thin line of brown liner accompanied by light brown shadow and a coat of black mascara works well on everyone). Even the palest girl or the girl with the reddest hair can have red lips—they just may have to work a little longer to find the perfect shade/depth. Fair skin should wear sheer reds, but darker complexions can go bolder. Once you find your red, wear it with your favorite little black dress to a holiday party and enjoy yourself. Make sure you carry the tube in your purse so you can touch up between drinks if needed.

- Holiday parties are just around the corner and to get you ready to go from work to cocktail party, here is a holiday makeup tips interview I recently sat for.

- Two looks are classic and hot right now: The smokey, shimmery eye paired with light lips and the deep red lips balanced with a light eye. Shimmer is in this year, as it was last year, and it’s the perfect festive look as long as you don’t overload on the shimmer.
- Recommend products for this season:
- Primers are a must this season for both face and eye makeup. Primers go on before foundation or eye shadow and keep makeup in place for hours. They also fill in fine lines and skin imperfections so your tinted moisturizer goes on smoothly. Try a tinted moisturizer which is much more light and gives a dewy finish, which is very sexy.
- Work makeup is, in general, pretty conservative. What can a woman do to punch up her look without taking it all off and starting over?
- Transitioning from work to evening is actually pretty easy if you prep yourself. Apply tinted moisturizer (or foundation), mascara and gloss or lipstick before work. After work, cover any blemishes by patting in a concealer (never rub). Then follow these steps for either the smokey eye look or the deep red look:
- For the Smokey Eye

- Apply your eye makeup: Eyeliner on both top and bottom lashes (be sure to ’smudge it,’ dark eyeliner will age you), apply an eye shadow primer, and a shimmery shadow on the lid. Don’t apply any more mascara unless your earlier application has rubbed completely off, otherwise you risk getting clumpy lashes.
- Dab a bit darker/brighter blush to cheeks.
- Powder your face lightly.
- Apply a light lipstick or gloss.
- For Deep Red Lips

- Cover unsightly veins on eyelids with a matte eyeshadow in a color that’s as close as your skin tone as possible (such as beige).
- Apply a very light blush on cheeks.
- Line lips and fill in with your favorite red color.
- Powder face.
- What different kinds of makeup should a woman wear to a chatty cocktail party, as opposed to a high-class late-night party?
- For the high-class party: Apply more shimmer or go deeper with the red lipstick.

- The number 1 rule of thumb: Never play up BOTH the eyes and the mouth.
- What can women to do make sure that the makeup they are wearing for a good 16 hours (8am-midnight) keeps looking fresh and clean?
- Primer is key here. Women should prime their skin before applying foundation or tinted moisturizer and they should prime their eyes before applying shadow. Also, carry Beauty Blotters (oil-blotter papers) if you tend to get greasy, holiday food can be very rich. It’s better to blot the oil than to keep applying powder, which can give you a cake-y appearance.
