Makeup Artists for a Day

As promised I am writing about my experience providing makeup for a dance recital. :) What a rewarding experience! The recital was held in the theater where I danced when I was age 6 to 13. I also participated in musical theatre there every summer. It was such a trip down memory lane! It seemed as though nothing had changed in there for 20 years! My high school class also used that stage for graduation since our high school had no auditorium and no air conditioning in the gym. Oh the memories!

There were 5 of us doing the makeup for the girls. This was a good number. There were lots of girls! The age range was 3 to 13! The dance instructors told us most of the girls would be in the basement. Two of us went to the basement, myself included. The youngest dancers were getting ready in the basement. My first makeup recipient was a 3 year old.  She had been overcome with stagefright during rehearsal. Her mom told her she could wear makeup as long as she wouldn’t cry on stage again. She was a doll! (more…)

New Compacts on TV

Yesterday on InTouch it was announced that Mary Kay compacts were featured in a segment on E! about summer makeup looks. What I find to be very interesting is that Tuesday night at my meeting we focused on eye makeup application, and the techniques described in this video clip were done on our guests!

Product Review: Subtle Tanning Lotion

For the past week I have been using the Mary Kay® Subtle Tanning Lotion. Unlike the previous Sunless Tanning Lotion, this product shows results after several applications over the course of approximately one week. Now, I happen to be Ivory 104 (Ivory 1 in Mineral Powder). I noticed a difference in a day. It was not nearly as dramatic as the Sunless Tanning Lotion. I just could see it a little on my foot because it’s pale. :) After my vacation, I do have a bit of a base tan, but since it has been more like October than May in my neck of the woods I thought I’d experiment with this to prolong my tan. OK, so I also hope to enhance my tan, too; because I tend to not look tan to others when I do in fact have a tan.

Anyway, I digress. Here are my pros and cons in my usual fashion: (more…)

June Changes to the Color Line!

This is available to all consultants on InTouch, but I wanted to share the upcoming changes to the color line. Here is a list of what will be going away for good and what will be back in June reformulated. It also says what new shades will be best to replace the discontinued ones: (more…)

New Mineral Makeup: Another Critique

Yesterday, my order with the new compacts and mineral makeup arrived. My business is based primarily on my skin care sales, so I wasn’t expecting much from the makeup in all honesty. I like to wear makeup, though, so I bought myself the new compact and glamor items. I ordered 2 compacts: one for the new pressed mineral powder and one for makeup. I also am keeping them packaged in the boxes so I can keep them nice and show them to my customers. My first impression of the compact: sleek! The look very nice and I like the size. The old platinum Custom Compact was convenient as far as storing items, but a little impractical for travel. The new compacts fit nicely into a purse. The sheen to the compact is very nice and it is easy to finger print up. My husband was even impressed with the appearance. I put my things inside it and showed him and he said it was “pretty cool.” :)

Today I’m wearing my new mineral makeup for the first time. The palette I chose consists of: (more…)

Donating Old Products to Charity

I was browsing my stats on the blog and someone searched this term:

“can i donate my mary kay inventory to charity”

I thought I would address it. It brought 3 searches to my site. The answer is absolutely! As a matter of fact, it is recommended by the company in the April issue of Applause®. It’s found on page 9. I will quote: (more…)

Mary Kay Mineral Foundation: A Critique

Today my Mineral Powder Foundation arrived! I have been sick for days so I am feeling better this evening and decided to give it a try before wearing it to work tomorrow. Overall, I do like it. I’ve decided to take this opportunity to list my pros and cons. Please note, this is the only Mineral Powder Foundation I have ever tried. It is not my intent to compare it to another brand of the same product. This is simply my take on the experience of wearing MK’s Mineral Powder Foundation. Here goes: (more…)

The Look: Winter 2008

lookcoverbig_usen-us.jpg

My director was kind enough to include me on her PCP mailing so I have the latest Look Book. I wanted to point out some things they have done with this issue that I really like. The first thing they’ve done is included the Color 101 application tips in the Look Book again! I am so glad they did this. It bothered me that I had to go online to figure out how to put a Color 101 look on and which shades to use. I would imagine most customers wouldn’t bother–not to mention those people who don’t have internet or computers. So, that makes me very happy! Second, I like how it features each foundation option with a description. I hadn’t noticed that in past issues. I’m glad they detail how each thing is different and what the benefits are. Third, I love that they marked the discontinued color products with a * and note “while supplies last.” That is excellent! Finally, the Targeted-Action Eye Revitalizer is featured in this issue of the Look. I’m glad. I had people asking about it this quarter and it wasn’t in the Look! OK. That’s my rave!

The Alternative to the Open House!

Did you know there are more than 12 days left until Christmas? I wasn’t even paying attention. There are actually 13 more shopping days left. That is a lot of time and tonight at my meeting, my eyes were opened to so many possibilities that I just have to share my new knowledge! :) Once a month, our unit joins 5 or 6 other units for a large training session. Tonight was the December night! I was able to train with directors I don’t see on a weekly basis. It was excellent. (more…)
