OK. I’m excited! I had an email in my inbox last night from our realtor and she got a phone call and an email regarding the house yesterday! Yea! She said one of the people has her own realtor who will show her the house on another day other than Saturday at our showing. That is OK. I think this person could be the girl who came to look at it after our last open house. I am keeping my fingers crossed that someone buys soon! Wouldn’t it be amazing if there’s a bidding war!

  2. shadesofpink says:

More excitement: a 3rd person called the realtor today!! Yea! I feel a sale coming on and move in our future! :D

  3. Semi~Charmed says:

How is the house sale going? I just left MKR a comment too, if you are on late tonight, I am having late night chat withdrawal, so let me know. :) I hope the house sale is going well. I still need to catch up reading some of the blogs, so if it’s posted elsewhere already, I am sorry. :)

  4. shadesofpink says:

The house sale is still pending. People come and look and don’t make offers. We’re probably asking too much. I just want this place to sell so we can get out of here.

  5. shadesofpink says:

We have some people coming to look at the house today. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

  6. shadesofpink says:

Yesterday I got a catalog from Colorful Images. There is a design for checks and labels in there called “Shades of Pink!” I’m so ordering them. :)

  7. mkrules says:

Good luck on selling the house!

  8. shadesofpink says:

    Thanks. We will need it!

  9. mkrules says:

Hey I was looking at the pics you have on flickr and your dog is so cute! He looks a lot like the lab mix hubby had when we first met. His name was Dizzy. (He had congestive heart failure and passed after his second heart attack). Those pics were bringing back the memories. I’ll show you a pic sometime. :)

  10. shadesofpink says:

Cool, MKR! I’d love to see a pic. :D My dog is a chocolate lab. He is huge! He weighs about as much as I do! Lots of fun, but what a handful. :)

  11. mkrules says:

Ours was small, only about 35 lbs. Black. He was the sweetest though.

  12. shadesofpink says:

He sounds adorable! My moose weighs over 100 lbs!

  13. mkrules says:

Hey shades, How do you get those cute boxes around your blockquotes? Is it automatic on this layout?

  14. shadesofpink says:

Hey MKR–yes, whenever I select a section to be quoted, this layout automatically puts the little box around the section. I have found that every layout is different. :)

  15. mkrules says:

Yeah I kinda figured that. Oh well!

  16. shadesofpink says:

Your new layout is great! ;) Oh, I figured out the snap preview thing, too. Now that I changed my settings to allow search engines, the snap preview is text only. Interesting… :D

  17. sabrina says:

I hadn’t visited your page in a while, but its looking great! One section I particularly like is the BIDIA page…makes me want to go out and do something for me to post! Keep up the good work.

  18. shadesofpink says:

Welcome, Sabrina! And all I can say is go out there and Do It Anyway! ;) I’ll be looking forward to your post. :)

  19. shadesofpink says:

This has nothing to do with Mary Kay. But, that’s what the cafe is for! ;) I was introduced to a new band and I want to plug them. Arcade Fire is awesome! I just purchased their album Neon Bible on iTunes. $10 well spent!

  20. shadesofpink says:

Today I had set out to deliver an order and hand out goody bags for breast cancer awareness. Well, I’ll admit it. I failed to do both. I have to go back to the eye doctor when my contacts come in so I can still get my things passed out. I found some of my supplies that I had misplaced so I can put some time and effort into my baggies. :) I can’t wait!

Now, the girl who ordered from me, was not at work today and she emailed me to let me know she’ll be in tomorrow. Perfect! It really worked to my benefit (and hers) because my order arrived today and now I can deliver her free gift, too! Also, it gave me more time to spend making her package look all cutesy and pretty. I decided to make use of one of the many empty gauzy Miracle Set bags I have sitting around. Now it looks like a gift to her! I’m not the most artsy and crafty person. I’m hoping to improve as I continue to dress up my delivery orders. :D

  21. sabrina says:

    hey shades,

You mentioned on MKRules’ site that you got a potential booking through Facebook….was that just a friend, or do you promote your MK business there? I’ve been told by some people that I should “promote myself” on myspace and facebook, but I haven’t been able to figure out how to do so without turning off friends that don’t want to be bombarded with MK stuff when they visit my pages (Does that make sense? lol)

    What do you think?!

  22. shadesofpink says:

Hey there, Sabrina! I don’t blatantly adverstise on MySpace and Facebook, however, I don’t keep my business a secret, either! ;) The girl who contacted me on Facebook, saw my profile on her friend’s list and sent me a message. I met her about a year ago because my friend is in a sorority and for the past 2 years, her sorority has asked me to do facials at their fall recruiting event. She booked a class from that sorority event. Her class I believe was zero sales, but apparently it was not in vain. She has now found me and still wants to order something. Sometimes, our work is paid later. ;)

So, if you want to advertise on MySpace or Facebook use the company guidelines. On Facebook, I just have my website listed under “websites.” Here’s my MySpace. That can give you an idea. Once in awhile I post a myspace bulletin about a promotion I’m doing, but most of the customers I gain through these websites contact me because I just list my website on there and list Mary Kay as one of my interests. Hope this helps answer your questions.

And you make perfect sense. ;) I also don’t want to alienate people. And over exposure can certainly do just that.

  23. shadesofpink says:

I’m pretty subtle online. I believe the best way to “advertise” is by talking to people in person. I’ve found that to be the most effective way to promote my business. It has taken me awhile to get used to it.

  24. sabrina says:

Thanks! Excellent advice, as usual! lol

  25. shadesofpink says:

Amusing sidebar: this morning I noticed that my husband put his own business cards in my pink Caddie cardholder.

  26. sabrina says:

A friend of mine found an interesting/bizarre product/site that I thought I’d share… coloronpro.com. I found it a little bizarre, but if they’re in business I guess they found themselves a niche. What do you all think?

  27. shadesofpink says:

    Wow. Very interesting. :)

  28. shadesofpink says:

Hubby is a bit late getting home from work. I’m wondering if he decided to buy the countertop they have on sale there. He said he will build me a workstation for my business! What’s really nice is he can build something that we can take with us when we move! I am so excited!

  29. Mercedes says:

Hey chicadee! I have a little something for you on my blog. Come check it out! Hope you enjoy!

    WOOF!

  30. sabrina says:

Its that time of year again….Career Conference! Is anyone else going too?

  31. Shades of Pink says:

Hi Sabrina! I go every year. It is my favorite event. :)

  32. Shades of Pink says:

This search term was used to find my blog today:

    bad religion wallpaper

Although I LOVE Bad Religion, somehow, I just don’t think this person found what they were looking for here.

  33. sabrina says:

How many people have seen the new color products in person?

I am super excited about them, but do any of you think they are too small (especially the eyeshadow)? For the same price (with the compact being more expensive), I’m just slightly nervous my customers are going to complain about it the size/price. If that does happen though, I guess I’ll be glad I still have some “old” color inventory.

  34. Shades of Pink says:

I have not seen them in person, however, I read over on pynkmyst that not much product is needed. My understanding is the pigment is deeper so not as much needs to be applied. I’ll be ordering samples and such on Monday. It should arrive in time for my “mineral party” at the end of the month! I’m excited to try them out!

  35. sabrina says:

Hmm…that’d make sense. If anyone complains (but I hope they don’t) I’ll be sure and tell them that.

….Mineral party?! Sounds like fun! I may adopt that name for one of mine!

  36. SkinCareMom says:

It is true… you really do need MUCH LESS of the product to get good coverage! I am loving the new eye colors~~especially the Tawnies look! Just wait~~ you will definitely use less (and the cost savings with the same price point will show for the customers also)

  37. Jennifer says:

Hey! I recieved a response to my emails. I have an order coming in before the ink is even dry on my agreement! That is so exciting.

  38. Shades of Pink says:

That is awesome!!! Nice work! :D That deserves a round of applause!

  39. Miss 3H aka MK Rules says:

OMG…I feel so bad for my super sweet adopted director. One of her unit members did “reply all” to her recent email and said:

“How do you send back unopened MK product? I know we talked about that when I started…”

HOW TACKY. Everyone in the unit does not need to know you are sending your inventory back! Sounds like a PT stunt. In fact, I think I have heard of that “demoralizing” trick before. Supposed to help the other unit members “get out of the pink fog” or some crap.

Geez. My adopted is NOT that pushy, frontloading director they claim all directors are on PT. She is so kind. I am no longer working my business right now and she still invited me to a reception for her upcoming wedding as well as showers and a sleepover for those who go to the shower! She befriends her unit members and her adoptees. She genuinely cares about our lives. This person is so mean to do this to my adopted director!

Just had to vent in a place where people will understand just how unnecessary and tacky this tactic is. :/

  40. Shades of Pink says:

:-? I hope she hit “reply all” by mistake. Sounds kind of lame. It also sounds like your adopted director is a sweetheart. I consider my director a friend as well. She has been there for me during some rough times and I appreciate her so much.

  41. Jenni says:

Tomorrow I’m going to get my brows done. I’m going to make sure I hand out one card. ; )

  42. Shades of Pink says:

    Great idea! :D

  43. jenni says:

Since my sitter won’t pay me, I’m going to put her butt to work! I’m going to ask her to be a silent hostess or to hold a class or something.

I need 15 new leads by the 15th. That is my focus. Kris has 3 days off. I can do it in one day or I can do 5 a day. Either way it has to be done.

I handed out one card today. Still didn’t have the nerve to ask but I’m getting there.

  44. Shades of Pink says:

When you talk to your sitter, I would ask her for the appointment first. You need faces. ;) Tell her you would love to practice your skin care teaching with her. Book her. And say this, “You know I’m starting a Mary Kay business and I would love to show you the products and get your opinion. What are you doing Sunday night?” ;) Once you have a day set with her then say something like, “you know, if you want to share the techniques and products with a couple of friends, you can get 10% off for each friend you have with you up to 50% off.” ;)

  45. Kathleen says:

Shades of Pink, I think I once read that you love to answer questions like the following: If you loved “Hot Fudge” lipstick you will love _____. Please fill in the blank for me. I have a customer that is digging in the tube for every drop. Thank you.

  46. Shades of Pink says:

Hi Kathleen. The conversion chart I have recommends Downtown Brown as an alternative to Hot Fudge. I know Downtown Brown is not as dark. Another option would be Gingerbread. If no color is close enough, I recommend calling MK Inc. (1-800-272-9333) and telling them you have an unhappy customer because Hot Fudge is gone. You could ask MKC if they recommend another shade. Also have your customer call them at 1-800-MARY KAY. Always refer customers to 1-800-MARY KAY to voice their concerns about product changes (or anything for that matter).

  47. SkinCareMom says:

I would actually recommend Rich Cocoa as an alternative to Hot Fudge… My customers who LOVED Hot Fudge are very satisfied with Rich Cocoa ;)

  48. Shades of Pink says:

Oh! I forgot about Rich Cocoa! Great suggestion…from a director! Thank you, SkinCareMom!

  49. Kathleen says:

Thank you ladies, nothing like the sisterhood in Mary K.

  50. SkinCareMom says:

You are most welcome! I love it when I can help consultants who WANT help :D

  51. Shades of Pink says:

Don’t you just love the sisterhood? I am always impressed at the willingness of others to help in this business.

  52. Krysti says:

Hey there! No wonder my blog surfer wasn’t working. ;)

  53. Shades of Pink says:

LOL! Sorry! I thought you knew I moved. What do ya think?
