Great Holiday Booking Idea

By popular demand, I’m sharing this great booking idea for the holiday season! This quarter my unit is doing a really great contest for our customers. It is a calendar model contest. We did this last year in conjunction with Corporate’s national model search. Basically, we are asking women over 18 to enter our local Calendar Girl Face Model Contest. Our goal is to have 200 entrants. From these 200 we will choose 12 to be featured in the calendar. The calendars are desk calendars by Vista Print. We will use one mother/daughter duo for May to honor Mothers’ Day.

Our Monday night even was dedicated to entering women in our contest, however, the turnout was not what we’d expected. I will say that I have used this contest to book myself some appointments. I have appointments scheduled every weekend in October so far and I’m not stopping yet! I also tell them I would like to feature them in my personal professional portfolio of my work. Some ladies are not into the contest thing, but don’t mind being in my portfolio.

Here is how the contest works:

  • Models are treated to makeovers.
  • We take before and after photos of them.
  • The entry form has spaces for each photo and then they fill out what they are wearing on their faces and a brief statement of what beauty means to them. It is similar to the national entry forms used last year, but not the same form at all.
  • The contest ends December 15

I’m hoping for a large turnout and a successful calendar featuring our models. :D

Great idea Shades! I love it.. I keep forgetting to take my camera when I do classes/parties/makeovers~~~ did 3 ladies and 1 guy today~~ Great party ;)

  2. Pink Bren says:

Shades this is a GREAT IDEA. I wrote my director and told her about it. I had never even thought about it. You are so inspiring. Thanks for all of your tips that you give.

Skin Care mom what about the guy? What exactly did you do? You know that men are becoming more concerned with their skin and their wrinkles. So do tell what you did with him. I was thinking about Shades calendar and for June I was wondering why not get a Dad and a Daughter for that picture. I think that would be GREAT.

  3. SkinCareMom says:

    good idea about the dad/daughter!

I had him use the MKMen Bar (shave a little off onto the tray with a veggie peeler!LOL~~it really does work). He did have to go into the bathroom to use the sink for it to work well, but it was his house, so ok! Then he did the Satin Lips (with the ladies)…. I had him try a little of the shave foam~~~my idea was for him to feel it and see what it smelled like~~ he went to his bathroom and shaved :0 After that he tried the After-Shave Cooling Gel and the MKMen Moisturizer with SPF 25. He loved it all… he did the Microdermabrasion on his hand when the ladies did…. Other than that, he changed diapers (his 8 month old was there as well as her 20 month old cousin). Yes, we had babies there and YES, it did take an additional hour because of the baby interruptions, but that was ok~~ The entire party was family (not mine) and very accomodating ;)

Hope that helps! I definitely had to wing it on a lot of the men’s stuff, but my hubby uses it all, so I do have the product knowledge!

  4. Pink Bren says:

SkinCareMom…that is a good idea about the men stuff. I will try and to incorporate it too. That is good. Thanks for the info. Because I have noticed that more men are trying to take care of their skin too. Thanks

  5. SkinCareMom says:

That is so true! Some of my favorite parties are for couples ;) The guys do skin care (and before we had the men’s, they used the same TimeWise!) at the same time as the ladies…. Then the guys go watch some sporting event on tv…or do something else while the ladies get “pretty”. Then the couples have date night with the ladies all done up and the guys with great skin!

  6. Shades of Pink says:

What awesome ideas! I’m going to share with my director about the dad/daughter idea for June and couples’ parties. WOW. Now that is an original idea! I LOVE that! Thank you so much for sharing! :D

  7. SkinCareMom says:

You are welcome! I love the sharing of ideas that takes place on your blog Shades.. and I share many of the ideas with my unit that I pick up here!

  8. pinkrenegade says:

Hi Shades, just dropped in to see how you were doing. Things look great around here and sounds like your MK is going really well. Congrats! Keep up the fine work!

  9. Pink Bren says:

I to have to Shades you are truly an inspiration and actually all of the ladies that post here. I get so many GREAT ideas and that is what it all about everyone sharing things that everyone can use. There is enough for everyone. One may not work for some however it will work for others. Shades I have to say thank you for having this blog. And when you do become a director I know that you will be the BEST.

    Have a GREAT DAY

  10. Pink Bren says:

Thinking of doing an open house. Can anyone tell me that has done one what all they did? I want to do some before the holidays and just want some different ideas about how to do it. I am excited about my MK business and I really want to make it to director and I want to do it right and want it to be a good strong unit. So any insight on this will help and I love hearing everyones take on things different views are always good. Thanks in advance.

    Have a GREAT MK DAY

Pink Bren…Check out my blog. I just did a post yesterday about the Holiday season and open Houses. I have done one every year for the last 4 years. If you have questions after reading my blog, let me know.

  12. Shades of Pink says:

Hey Pink Renegade! Thanks for stopping by. I was thinking about you recently. I’m psychic like that. :P I’ve been crazy busy with my business and with life! I don’t think it’s going to calm down anytime soon either!

Pink Bren, thank you so much for your kind words. I appreciate all of my readers and I LOVE comments! Comments = ideas! :D Thank you to all who participate in the discussions.

  13. Nancy Sutherland says:

Thanks for sharing this with me. I haven’t seen this done exactly this way before. I am going to look for ways to put together another event with a local photographer. We did them in the past and were very successful.

  14. MKheart says:

Nancy….you mentioned in your post about doing something with a photographer. I am very interested in this. A friend of mine started her own photography business a couple of years ago and I have been trying to think up some ideas on how we can incorporate MK into that.

She has told me that I am more than welcome.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

  15. Shades of Pink says:

Thanks for visiting, Nancy. :) I’m not sure whose idea this was. I think it was either my director or her senior director. We ran this last year in conjunction with the national Model of Beauty Search that Mary Kay had. I think the philosophy was they had a chance to win our contest and still enter the national contest. It was quite successful! I’d also like to know what you are doing with your photographer friend.

MKheart, just an idea, if your friend does weddings, she could hand out your card to the brides she sees. ;)

  16. angie says:

To all my MK buddies, You may or may not have heard of this:

I would recommend another idea to incorporate along with the photography sessions and that is Wedding Planners.

If you have or can get an alliance with a WP, you could be a part of the team..also in Photography.

It is a benefit for both professions to include you as part of their services. Remember everyone is listening to ‘wiifm’ what’s in it for me? You bring value and expertise to their organization at the same time building yours.

3 Sessions with 3 packages just like they do. First, your initial consultation,

Second: the actual appointment with the Wedding party.

Third: On hand for the Wedding.

The 3 packages you offer at the consultation:
Of course, that is your product packages with tax included.

Hope this helps some of you that are interested. Go to your Photography studios, have professional brochures printed up to leave with them. Tell them you will cross promote..the same goes with the Wedding Planners. You can give them space in your portfolio. Who would not want the free advertising?

The portfolio helped me many many years ago. Most every woman would love to help you build a portfolio. It is still my favorite for building new clients and meeting prospects. I would recommend that you do not do as I did (back in the stone age) I did not take into account the background..had em in front of wall paper and you name it.. Did not take long for me to see that I needed a blank wall and I have them pull their hair back, with a white towel draping them for their before shot. My purpose was for them to see an improvement..LOL!:)
Then of course, they fluffed their hair, with their new look and I asked them to smile like they just won the lottery! Btw, I asked them not to smile in the before shots..

Of course, you will want to practice prior. Get your plan together, get armed and out the door! :)

We started doing Unit Open Houses several years ago, made for more fun etc: You could have little gifts in advance and ask them to bring their invitation where a # is on it signifying what gift they get. Or you can put sampler handcreams on a christmas tree that they take off when they come..Gift certificates could be included.

When I did them in my home, my house was rather small so I told them I was setting aside a time for them to acomadate everyone. Like I was going to have the house overflowing with customers..lol!
Drawings and pink light specials using a pink flashlight adds fun to it.

I think the main thing is to keep it simple and have fun. For me, that was with the Unit. I also think the same time every year builds a constancy and consistency that helps long term.

    Hugs

  17. MKheart says:

Angie, thank you so much for the pointers. I love your ideas for cross promoting with Wedding Planners and Photography studios. I am going to get started on my brochure.

I love doing my Open House every year as do my customers. They have come to expect it.

  18. Shades of Pink says:

Angie, those are great ideas! I think the unit-wide open house is an excellent point and I think I will mention it to my director!
Also, in addition to Wedding Planners, you could collaborate with florists and photographers. I actually have been meaning to contact my florist from my wedding to see if we can collaborate for weddings. :)
