The Big Picture

Recently, I’ve talked about affirmations and goals I’ve mentioned time after time after time. Now it’s time to see the big picture! The big picture is really your “WHY.” I just had this AHA moment the other day. It just kind of hit me in the brain as I was driving to or from work. Yes, I guess my mind wanders on that thirty mile commute! I was thinking about how we always hear about having a “why” for doing this business. I could never come up with one. (more…)

Flattery Will Get You Everywhere

My friend Jennifer at Ringleader has honored me with an award. I am flattered. Really, this wasn’t necessary. I’m blushing now! I’m so happy I met her in the MK Groups on MySpace 2 years ago. Can you believe it’s been 2 years??!!

There are rules for this award. I am to nominate seven other people! OK, so here are the official rules:

  1. Put the logo on your blog.
  2. Add a link to the person who awarded you.
  3. Nominate at least seven other blogs.
  4. Add links to those blogs on your blog.
  5. Leave a message for your nominee on their blog.

So, I am nominating the following outstanding women of the beauty consultant community today:

  1. Pink Bren is going to go far in her business. She is dedicated and has a lot of business savvy as she owns her own salon.
  2. MK Heart has tons of enthusiasm and is excited about her business!
  3. Pink Biz has a great blog filled with inspiration. She is an experienced consultant be sure to check her out!
  4. Miss 3 H advocates health, happiness, and holiness. Her blog is dedicated to a balanced lifestyle.
  5. Pink Renegade helps other women starting a home party plan business. She’s a beauty consultant with a lot of information for those of us taking advantage of the internet.
  6. Angie has been very supportive and a good friend for about a year now (a year!). Her blog is all politics. :)
  7. Mercedes is a consultant and a teacher. She’s going through some trying times and I’m thinking of her lots. Thanks for reading, Mere!

Anatomy of a Goal

“People with goals succeed, and those without goals fail. Define your goals. Then write your goals down along with a specific plan for accomplishing them. Break the long-term goal into a series of little goals, each attainable with a specific timeframe. As the saying goes, ‘You can eat an elephant one bite at a time.’” –Mary Kay Ash

For better understanding of goals, let’s break it down. I’m going to use an example. I think it is a good example and everyone should have this particular goal. The numbers can be different. What I am doing is breaking down a Seminar year sales goal into pieces.

I’m going to dissect my Seminar 2009 goal. Here is the breakdown: (more…)

Awesome Company

MKC Gal: “Thank you for calling MK. How can I help you today, Shades [she knew who I was!]?”

ME: “Hi! I have a question about the rebate the company is currently doing. Does it apply to former consultants that are paying the $20 renewal fee? I have someone doing this. She was on my team about 2 years ago, but terminated. She never got active. Now she is going to do the $20 restart. Is she still eligible for the rebate if she does a $600 order?”

MKC Gal: “Oh, Shades, I don’t think it applies to former consultants, but let me check for you in case I’m mistaken.”

ME: “OK…” :( *uh-oh* (more…)

Affirmations Create Accountability

For the longest time I have not been able to create an affirmation for myself. I have heard time and time again that having a daily affirmation or mantra will help one to reach her goals. I could never get behind it. I think I was stuck in this vision that affirmations are a little cheesy and cheery and don’t sound like anything I would say. Many I have seen, heard, and read feel like cheers or pep talks and I’m not good at those. I have on posted on my sidebar that sounds like a rhyme and a cheer. It’s good, but it’s not something I can get in the habit of saying daily. There is also the dreaded suggestion of recording oneself saying the affirmation and then listening to it repeatedly such as in the car. That kind of thing gives me the creeps for some reason. Then, I attended a workshop with my NSD back in April. My opinion and understanding of an affirmation was transformed. (more…)

Plain Business Cards or Picture Cards

Today my order of business cards arrived. I decided to go with the cards that feature pictures of the products rather than the pink cards. The new designs feature a different product and each card has a different color background. There is a card that features the men’s line, for example, that has a blue background. Another features women’s fragrances with an orange background. A third features the skin care with a pink background. Finally, a design features lipsticks which is also on a pink background. The plain pink cards feature the company logo in silver foil. (more…)

Attracting New Business

This is a sort of continuation of my earlier post on the Scavenger Hunt. In that post I mentioned it was not for me. It was too “Mary Kay Commando” for my taste. The feeling it gave me was uncomfortable. I felt like I was attacking people rather than attracting. There really wasn’t anything attractive about it. Again, don’t get me wrong, if you are a lover of this method of generating leads, go for it. If not, read on. :D (more…)

A Scavenger I Am Not

There is an exercise out there in network marketing called The Scavenger Hunt. It is supposed to be helpful for people like me to come out of our shells and go talk to strangers about our businesses. Last night when I arrived at my weekly meeting, my director informed us that we were going to split into team and do this exercise until 8:00 p.m. while she worked with our guests.

On paper, this sounds like a great idea. For those who are not familiar with it, here is the rundown. Basically, you have a list of people to find. In this case, it’s women because I’m in the cosmetic business. There are items like, “Woman with dark hair;” “Woman with a baby stroller;” “Woman wearing glasses.” You get the idea, right? If not, the sheet looks something like this: (more…)

Ordered Business Cards Lately?

As many or most of you consultants out there may know, corporate is currently offering 50 free business cards plus 30 free information cards for MK Connections orders placed from August 1-October 15, 2008. If you are like me and ordered something from MK Connections before the corporate announcement on August 7, we can still take advantage!

Corporate is not going to update your order automatically. If you ordered anything from MK Connections prior to the announcement on August 7, simply go to MK Connections and select Special Offers. Then choose Buy Now. One of the options is just the free offer. You can select that and get your 50 cards for the shipping and tax cost only. It will most likely cost you less than $5.00. It’s $3.99 for shipping plus your local sales tax. My total was $4.24 if that is helpful. :D

MK4ME, thanks for the heads up! If not for your comment over on Balanced Mary Kay, I would not have even thought to look at Special Offers!

Silent Hostess: Worth It or Lost Cause

I’m very curious to know what everyone’s opinion is of silent hostesses. Are they worth it or a waste of time and resources? In the past, they have never really worked well for me. I don’t know if it is the integrity of the people I’m asking or if I need to coach it more effectively. This week I tried one and it didn’t go over so well. I thought it would work wonderfully because I used this one “program” that some ladies in my unit were trying. I thought it was filled with incentives for all and would promote sales. (more…)
