Staying Focused on Goals

Tonight our unit had a potluck dinner at my director’s house instead of a regular meeting. We did this to go over last year’s accomplishments and the new year’s goals. We were asked to bring our goal posters if we had them. I found this to be the perfect opportunity to grab my magnetic dry erase board and get that put together again. It’s an effortless goal poster. My director and friends had really nice posterboards with pictures and such pasted to them. I am not so good with glue.
I love that I can just move stuff around and not have to throw the whole thing out and start from scratch. How very…green?
My goal poster has the current star prize I am working toward, my career path goals, and my goals for next Seminar. It also fits a magnetic “Six Most Important Things” list that is also dry erase. In addition to that I have my Weekly Plan Sheet. I’m a magnet freak so this is another excuse to have magnets and not have them clutter the fridge. I have a little “clippy” magnet that I am going to clip other tracking sheets to so I can still see them each day.
Do you have a goal poster? What does it look like?

Stumble It!
I do it has a few pictures on it not many I guess I should work on that. For those of you that pray please do so there is a storm heading our way, and we have not had a bad strom in like 38 years and are due. I don’t know if the girls and I will leave or just go around the corner to my daddy’s house. We will wait and see this evening where they think that the storm will actually come in.
This hurricanes can be scary. However unlike the tornados you can leave before they acutally arrive. Well I pray that everyone has GREAT DAY. Bren
Bren, I’ll be praying that you and your family are safe and the storm passes you by.
I love the goal poster!! I actually right now do not have an updated goal poster. I need to get that done. They are very motivating and really help keep you on track.
Thanks, MKheart! Tracking has always been a weakness for me. I’m hoping to improve. And I’m so happy that Hubby is currently hanging my goal poster on the wall.
What a great idea for a goal poster. I love magnets also, but am trying to keep my frig clear since I no longer have little kids! Thanks for the good idea. Just 1 question–I’ve never actually made a goal poster–do you and others think they really make a difference?
This is my first real attempt at a goal poster. I think as long as you have the drive and keep the goals in a place that you can be reminded of them daily, the poster is beneficial. It’s for those days you don’t feel like being a MK consultant. You can see your goals and your reasons and be recharged.
I have never made a goal poster. And I’ve never actually seen one that I liked. But this one looks really nice–professional, pretty, uncluttered. I think I’ve been inspired!!
Have any of you seen Sean Smith’s “Deadly Goal-Setting Mistakes”?
I have heard of Sean Smith’s “Deadly Goal-Setting Mistakes.” I get his newsletter and I could’ve sworn I had that on email somewhere, but now I can’t find it. grrr…
I like that it’s on a magnetic board. Easily changed each quarter.
I think the magnetic board is my favorite part! Unless we’re talking computers, I’m NOT a cut ‘n’ paste kinda girl! lol!
Hi Shades (and everyone) ….
My computer is finally back! Shades I have a new job (part time) mom has emphysema so I decided to work Pt and get organized. By the way the goal posters DO work!! I did it once (not for MK..I know shame shame.) and a friend of mine saw it in my room and said “do you realize more than half of the things you wrote down have happened?” It was true and it works! Good luck! Oh Bren I hope you will be ok…we had a storm here in MD but we are doing fine.
Yay, Colleen! Great to have you back! I apologize I never emailed you. Life has been just crazy. You are so right about goal posters! A director I know says 80% of what you dream will come true so dream big! So, I completely believe that more than 50% of your goals on your poster happened.
Funny story: Hubby thinks my goal poster is too small! He said they have bigger better ones at Lowe’s. Maybe he has a point…hmmm… LOL He also wants to put HIS goals on it. I told him get your own! Ha!
I never was serious about my goal poster (sorry to say) in the past. Then about two years ago I put tracking sheets on mine to give me the visual “at-a-glance” type thingy. Much better than checking them out in a focus notebook, which I didn’t check often enough. Hanging up on the wall gives me a better perspective of where I need to be and what to do to get there.

That’s a great point, PinkBiz. I have never been good at tracking. I have a little magnet that can clip and hold other forms. I think I am going to use it for tracking sheets. I have a few things I’m running for. I agree that putting it on the wall is better than keeping it in a book or folder.
My real problem about a goal poster in the past was a bunch of cutsy pictures that ultimately did nothing for me as far as advancing or reaching goals. Although the pictures were really cute. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m a visual person who has to see where I’m headed and where I’ve been. It’s the definite C personality in me. Same here for me on tracking, I need to be consistent this year if I’m to run the race(s)!

Hey Shades I got a part time gig and another gig at five hours a week and the pay is weekly for both! NOW this weekend Im getting myself organized and get the MK going and now I have plan AB an C!!! The part time gig offered me a raise in two weeks can you believe it!!! They also offered me full time if I want it but I dont. Thank god I saved three checks from the one that let me go! Hey I met my employment goals in two weeks. That is the benefit of writing everything down.
Colleen, that is awesome! How’s your mom doing?
we go back to the doctor tomorrow (Friday) in order to determine when the date of her surgery will be. Shades when you get time truck on over to Balanced Mary Kay I think they would appreciate your input over there. Im so glad to have my computer back!!! I WILL get organized this week, there has been some cleaning up in MK they are getting rid of the violators! Im proud to say that I think they realize the MK way is best.
Well, I hope everything goes well for your mom. I have been reading over on balanced. I agree that it is a good thing MKC is cleaning house a bit.
I made my poster last week. It’s dorky, but has my goals. Go me. My 4 y/o made a princess poster to go with my goal poster. How cute is that?
Tracking sheets? What tracking sheets? Just kidding. I need to get mine out. They are as “snow blind” as my date book is. Hmm… wonder if there is a coralation????
Colleen, I’m keeping your mom in my thoughts. Praying all goes well with her surgery.
Kim
Sounds like you have a great start, Pink Lady.
I’m also very bad at tracking sheets. I’m working on keeping track of those as well.
[…] on my topic about goal posters, it came up that many of us (myself included) have trouble with tracking. This is the first quarter […]
I hadn’t noticed a digg button in your posts before - I used it and it works
- how did you code it?
Yes! I joined digg.com and when you go to your profile page scroll down to the bottom and click “All Digg Tools” and then under “For Website Owners & Developers” click on “Integrate Digging in Your Site.” It will give you a code to post in each post.
Oooohhh… I’ve been on there over a year and a half and never noticed that before!
Are you the other person who dugg this post or someone else?
I am guilty. I dugg it first just to make sure it worked.
Interesting name you have!!
(I always thought you were female)
Thanks for pointing out that button - it works on my site
Sweet! I think this is one that I dugg. There were a couple and then I stopped once I was convinced the button worked. I’m shadesofpink on digg, too, so if you’re referring to a name on digg other than shadesofpink, it’s not me.
Ha ha - the other person who dugg this post is called Donald!!
I’ll find you on Digg and add you as a friend in a minute.
Are you on StumbleUpon and/or MyBlogLog?
LOL! OK then. I’m not on StumbleUpon or MyBlogLog, but was considering both.
I’d recommend all of them and see which works best.
It may be a good idea to check this out too - ProBlogger Love-In
Okay so I am kind of confused.?? What is Digg it, StumbleUpon and MyBlogLog? I am in the dark. Maybe it is just me.
Hi MKheart
They are social media / social networking sites where you can submit web pages, both your own and other peoples’.
If the community likes them then they can vote them up, leading to more exposure and, hopefully, traffic to your site.
OK. Within like 5 minutes of joining stumbleupon, my visits shot up to 199! Thanks for the tip!
What are your visits normally?
Since switching to my own domain my numbers fell a bit. I average around 120/day. Still building up.
That was quite an increase then.
With Stumbleupon you can submit your own posts, but you will also need to stumble a few other things in between times to keep their algorithm happy.
Of course on Digg you can submit everything if you feel it is of quality
Cool! Stumbleupon seems to be similar to LinkReferral, then.
It can be a great source of traffic - if your post is popular then it is not unheard of to receive 10,000+ visitors in a single day!!!
I so have to try that!! My traffic to my blog is pretty low. I am beyond eager to get traffic moving to it.
There are many other ways to get traffic….
Okay…scam…you have me curious now. What are some more ideas??
