New Television Ad Campaign

This month Mary Kay will be launching television commercials during popular programs. This information was in the latest eMessenger from the company, but in case you missed it, click here to preview the commercial! :D

Scheduling Work Time

One of my biggest challenges in, well, life is managing my time effectively. I’m pretty astute at wasting time. My goal is to get myself onto a good work schedule in both my Mary Kay business and in my personal life. I have always followed the guidelines I’ve heard from multiple directors, my own included. The biggest rule I follow is to color code my datebook. Everything has its own highlighter color. Mary Kay office time is pink; time at my day job is blue (fitting); sales appointments are green (and this includes my meetings so I am reminded to invite guests); alone time for myself is yellow; and Hubby’s time is orange (yes, Hubby feels important with his own color on the schedule). ;) (more…)

Web Hostess Ideas

Thank you, to Pink Bren who emailed me these great Web Hostess emails! Pink Bren, I’m sorry for not responding. For some reason the first email you sent was in my spam. It’s not in spam anymore! ;) Feel free to use these and/or moderate them to make them your own! (more…)

Five More Phone Contacts

I did it! I made five more contacts tonight. :D Four were via the phone and one was via email as I only had that to contact her. Tonight I contacted existing customers rather than new leads. I left three messages and spoke to one. I’m very happy I spoke to the one I did. She had returned product to me awhile back and was going to visit my website to see if she wanted to do an exchange. It had been months since we had spoken so I really wanted to touch base with her since she returned the product and I had not yet refunded her.

We chatted for a few minutes. She now uses a different skin care line, but she may be interested in seeing what’s new with my product line. :) Tomorrow I am mailing her the refund check and in a couple of weeks I’m calling her back and we are going to schedule an appointment! I hope to hear from my other two customers soon so that we can possibly schedule appointments, too. (more…)

Lesson Learned

For months I’ve been putting off calling some leads I got at a bride show way back in January. Tonight I finally coughed up the courage to just get on the freakin’ phone! Well, I made five phone calls. The first person I called told me she has a consultant. I know I asked her if she had one when I met her. She said she is surprised she even checked “yes” to a facial! She was very nice. My second call was my most promising. This woman can’t do an appointment now because she is moving. She is having a house built literally around the corner from me. She said a makeup party would be a lot of fun to get people over to her new home when it’s ready. So, she is keeping my number. Of course, I’ll call her in a month or so to follow up. Third, I called the bride who won my gift certificate. Her sister is now a consultant. That’s what I get for freaking out and waiting! I told her to make sure she tries the new minerals! Next, I called another bride who just flat out said she decided on NO MAKEUP for her wedding! What?! Well, at this I decided to call her matron of honor who also entered in my drawing. She was a very made up lady. Not overly done at all, you could just tell that she cares a lot about her appearance. She had a great manicure the day I met her. This woman’s number was disconnected!

So, that was my phone call experience. But, you know what? I’m glad I got on the phone. It showed me some things. (more…)

Displaying All These New Colors

As I’ve mentioned before, we got to see the new mineral makeup colors at our meeting last night. Our training included how to display the new colors on the go. It may seem like there are tons of colors, but guess what! Two display trays and one compact will hold all the new shades!

My strategy will be to get the new colors and get them into my display trays. I believe it will fit all of the eye colors, cheek colors, and bronzing/highlighting powders. Isn’t that good news? No big bulky displays required. Here’s another tip; at Wal-Mart there is a tackle box with 18 storage slots that will hold the new mineral colors as well. We were forewarned that each slot will hold 7 colors, but only put 6 in there otherwise you will have a lot of difficulty when you want to get them out! (more…)

Closer to Home

Tonight I had my weekly MK meeting. This was our monthly S.O.S. event held at a local Holiday Inn. During the first week of each month, we have a larger event joining 4 to 6 units together for motivation and training. These are always fun because we see people we don’t always get to see and we hear from directors that we don’t hear week after week. The variety is good!

One of the highlights of tonight’s meeting was receiving the new Look Book. If you have not seen it yet, you will love it! It is made to resemble a fashion magazine. It has headlines on the cover, a table of contents on the first two pages, and it’s filled with bright photographs. The new products are easy to see in this book. It’s a very colorful publication. Another new item I saw at the meeting was the new Hostess Brochure! It is oblong like the new Girl’s Guide to Glamor Brochure. The new Hostess Brochure features current hostess gifts (it appears the current quilted makeup bag trio remains an option) and appointment options. I wish I’d had my camera! I would have taken pictures of the display table to share here! My bad. I apologize! (more…)

Makeup Artists for a Day

As promised I am writing about my experience providing makeup for a dance recital. :) What a rewarding experience! The recital was held in the theater where I danced when I was age 6 to 13. I also participated in musical theatre there every summer. It was such a trip down memory lane! It seemed as though nothing had changed in there for 20 years! My high school class also used that stage for graduation since our high school had no auditorium and no air conditioning in the gym. Oh the memories!

There were 5 of us doing the makeup for the girls. This was a good number. There were lots of girls! The age range was 3 to 13! The dance instructors told us most of the girls would be in the basement. Two of us went to the basement, myself included. The youngest dancers were getting ready in the basement. My first makeup recipient was a 3 year old.  She had been overcome with stagefright during rehearsal. Her mom told her she could wear makeup as long as she wouldn’t cry on stage again. She was a doll! (more…)
