Scheduling Work Time

One of my biggest challenges in, well, life is managing my time effectively. I’m pretty astute at wasting time. My goal is to get myself onto a good work schedule in both my Mary Kay business and in my personal life. I have always followed the guidelines I’ve heard from multiple directors, my own included. The biggest rule I follow is to color code my datebook. Everything has its own highlighter color. Mary Kay office time is pink; time at my day job is blue (fitting); sales appointments are green (and this includes my meetings so I am reminded to invite guests); alone time for myself is yellow; and Hubby’s time is orange (yes, Hubby feels important with his own color on the schedule).
In my datebook I block out the colors on the month view calendar pages. I color the days according to what the majority of time is spent doing. I also highlight my Weekly Plan Sheet and this is done more specifically by the hours in the day. The weekly sheet is displayed on the fridge so Hubby can see it, too. I’ve actually gotten away from this habit, but I am going to revisit it very soon.
Here is what my datebook looks like:

That is a great way to organize your time Shades! Unfortunately with 4 kids at home (none drive), I have to do mine very differently! I am often at the whim of their schedules and “last minute” activities that I have very little control over! For example, yesterday was supposed to be MK time (a debut of an NSD~~~and someone I know personally). It had been on my calendar for several months…. However, it was also a swim meet for my two youngest kids (9 and 14) and hubby was officiating at the meet and couldn’t leave (7am-5pm). Second daughter (16) had SAT tests scheduled from 7:45am-11:15am and then a graduation party for one of her best friends from 11:30-4pm…… Dad couldn’t leave the meet to take her to SATs, pick her up from SATs, take her to the friend’s house, pick her up from the friend’s house….etc. So I had to miss the debut
and be mom! I did however meet with one of my out of town consultants who was visiting her family and do some training (and gave out samples to several ladies in the process~~sitting at Starbucks sharing my display organization of the new eye and cheek colors!)
The “green MK” time on my datebook turned to SEVERAL mixed colors as each family member has their own color on my calendar
That’s how my time is, too; so on my Weekly Plan Sheet, it’s more exact. And if life happens, life happens. I do write in what changes.
If I don’t at least draw up a plan, however, I will be completely overwhelmed and nothing will happen.
“And if life happens, life happens. I do write in what changes. If I don’t at least draw up a plan, however, I will be completely overwhelmed and nothing will happen.” <——Very profound! Words to live by!
Very nice. Like the first led my colors bleed into each other. I often have to switch my life at a drop of the hat. That’s why I write everything in pencil! Tee-Hee! I admire your organizational skills! I’m a mess most of the time.
