Lesson Learned

For months I’ve been putting off calling some leads I got at a bride show way back in January. Tonight I finally coughed up the courage to just get on the freakin’ phone! Well, I made five phone calls. The first person I called told me she has a consultant. I know I asked her if she had one when I met her. She said she is surprised she even checked “yes” to a facial! She was very nice. My second call was my most promising. This woman can’t do an appointment now because she is moving. She is having a house built literally around the corner from me. She said a makeup party would be a lot of fun to get people over to her new home when it’s ready. So, she is keeping my number. Of course, I’ll call her in a month or so to follow up. Third, I called the bride who won my gift certificate. Her sister is now a consultant. That’s what I get for freaking out and waiting!
I told her to make sure she tries the new minerals! Next, I called another bride who just flat out said she decided on NO MAKEUP for her wedding! What?! Well, at this I decided to call her matron of honor who also entered in my drawing. She was a very made up lady. Not overly done at all, you could just tell that she cares a lot about her appearance. She had a great manicure the day I met her. This woman’s number was disconnected!
So, that was my phone call experience. But, you know what? I’m glad I got on the phone. It showed me some things.
- People can reject you nicely.
- Don’t assume that leads are your leads forever. Their sister or best friend might become a consultant.
- When someone you’re afraid to call finds a new consultant, it says, GET OVER IT! They might want the product! Just ask.
- If you wait too long the person’s number might change or they might move.
- There is really no reason to be afraid.
I have three more leads to call. I am going to do it tomorrow with new enthusiasm. I’m also going to do some things at work to generate sales, bookings, and new leads. That will be in my next post… ![]()

Stumble It!
I can’t wait for your results tomorrow! I know you can do it. Remember a no is nothing. It doesn’t mean a thing. They’re not rejecting you.
Congrats on picking up the phone and calling! I know when I did a bridal faire last fall… I called all the leads I had, and we were given a printout list of all attendees! I eagerly emailed everyone on my list~~~ had 2/3 email me back telling me they had never heard of the bridal faire :O Wonder where the names, addresses and emails came from
It does get easier the more often you do it….
Congrats & job well done! You’ll gain ground.
It takes a lot of guts to pick up the phone and call strangers several months later..Bravo! When you get old leads all called…you can mentally rest better. It hangs around you and affects your productivity..it is there everyday..I think sometimes we don’t call because as long as we don’t make a move..we tell ourselves that we have a lead.:)
Great lessons for all of us.. I have found better results when I called no later than 24- 48 hours..Actually the next day is better..if they only remember 10% of what we said at a party or class 48 hours later…how are they going to rememember how we made them feel in our brief conversation?
I am very proud of you..that was a big milestone..and a giant leap! You go Girl!
Thanks! I have some more calls to do tonight!
You go, girl! You’re braver than I am!
I call people all day long at my job and sell graphics to them once you get used to it like anything else the fear goes away. It still creeps up on me at times but the more you do it the more you become immune to the fear. Good for you Shades and everyone else.
Thanks, Colleen
