New Mineral Makeup: Another Critique

Yesterday, my order with the new compacts and mineral makeup arrived. My business is based primarily on my skin care sales, so I wasn’t expecting much from the makeup in all honesty. I like to wear makeup, though, so I bought myself the new compact and glamor items. I ordered 2 compacts: one for the new pressed mineral powder and one for makeup. I also am keeping them packaged in the boxes so I can keep them nice and show them to my customers. My first impression of the compact: sleek! The look very nice and I like the size. The old platinum Custom Compact was convenient as far as storing items, but a little impractical for travel. The new compacts fit nicely into a purse. The sheen to the compact is very nice and it is easy to finger print up. My husband was even impressed with the appearance. I put my things inside it and showed him and he said it was “pretty cool.”
Today I’m wearing my new mineral makeup for the first time. The palette I chose consists of:
Eyes: Honey Spice (highlighter), Chocolate Spice (midtone), and Navy Blue (accent) with Ultimate Mascara in black. *Note: I have refrained from eyeliners lately. I have found they make my eyes look a little too harsh. I think for me, I look younger and fresher if I skip the liner.
Cheeks: I used the shimmer mineral highlighting powder in Pink Stardust. I used it in place of blush. I find that sometimes blush looks too blushy on me.
Lips: Nutmeg lipstick and Sugarberry gloss. Again, I did not use lipliner.
I am going to list what exactly I put on my face today. I started with my normal skin care routine which is Combination/Oily formula of Time Wise. I use the Even Complexion Essence, Day Solution, and tinted moisturizer in Ivory 1 as well. Next, I applied my Mineral Powder Foundation in Ivory 1. Then, I applied the new mineral pressed powder. From that point, I did my makeup. I’m happy with how it looks
So, now I’ll list some pros and cons as I did with the mineral powder foundation.
Pros:
- The colors blend very nicely.
- I think the new pressed powder evens out my complexion nicely and does not give a made up look. In other words, it looks very natural.
- The shimmer highlighting powder is a nice alternative to blush.
- I got some compliments on my makeup today.
Not that I never get them, but the fact that I wore makeup like I normally do and got compliments says to me there is something different about this line.
- A little bit of color goes a long way.
- The eye color didn’t spread all over. It looks nice and contained.
- I like the blush brush. It works best for the new cheek colors and the highlighting powders.
- The magnetic feature is great. The buttons on the old compact were easy to break.
- I love that it closes magnetically. I had the plastic clasp on the old compact break a time or two.
- The lever on the new compact keeps the contents more contained. In other words, they don’t fly all over the place. Sometimes it is difficult to pop the old version out without having items go airborne!
- The size of the compact is much easier to carry in a purse.
Cons:
- I don’t like the new applicators. I will stick to my brush set. Perhaps my brush set sales will increase.

- The small brush applicator that is made for the compact seems smaller than the old brush of the dual end applicator. I have no opinion of the sponge tip applicator as I have not used one in ages.
- The size of the new cheek colors and the highlighting powders seems a bit too small for the cheek brush in the brush set.
- The compact will be difficult to keep looking shiny and new.
There are my findings. As always, I would love input from anyone else using the new mineral makeup! ![]()

Stumble It!

Hey Shades, I just love, love, love the colors and the way the products go on and stay on. They blend so easily and you need very little.
The granite looks awesome on. I think it is my new favorite. So far I have like both the blushes on everyone. The bronzers and highlighters are easy to use.
Love the compact and the actual blush brush really does work, I must agree with you though, the blending brush and eye shadow applicator seem to be a little are on the small side. I think if someone had arethritist or joint issues, they might have a hard time working with them.
Can’t wait to get feed back from my open house and mineral magic makeover guest night this weekend. If these go like the mineral foundations did, I will be doing the happy dance!
I like the colors, too. I was worried at first that there weren’t enough options, but they are very classic and can be worn with just about anything. I think the colors I’m wearing are a more dramatic look (but I like drama when it comes to what I put on my face lol). I haven’t tried Granite yet, but I may give it a try in a couple of days.
Good luck with your open house and guest night!
I posted on pynkmyst’s site, but will post here as well. Since (if I am understanding correctly), the new black compacts ONLY hold mineral makeup (please correct me if I’m wrong), what am I supposed to do for the other eye colors and blushes? I have a customer who needs a compact for her blush, and I am at a loss as to what to do. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!
If you are out of the older compacts, you may want to ask your director or a consultant if she has one to traade. The older ones may be available on InTouch on Discontinued Section 1. Not sure if they are sold out yet or not.
Thanks for the mention of not using eyeliner! I have been using it for years, but took your suggestion and skipped it and added accents instead. I loved it!
They still do have the Custom Compact; all others are gone. But here’s the thing: eventually they will ALL be gone, and consultants won’t even have any to trade. Then what are we supposed to do? There will continue to be new customers who want the regular blush colors available, and there won’t be a compact for them! Don’t get me wrong; I like the black compacts, and I think it’s neat how customizable they are, but I’m frustrated with how much WON’T fit–colors that are still regular line.
When I’m completely out and my customers who have the older version are needing to refill, I plan to switch them at a discount. By then, I hope there will be more options available as far as colors. I’ll even take the old compacts off their hands and then recycle them.
Oh, and as far as new customers go, introduce them to the new products. What I am about to do is run a sale on all the old color things for my current customers. New customers are being introduced only to the new mineral makeup. It should make for a smoother transition.
I don’t know how much this will help, but it doesn’t hurt to know that on the new “Look” catalog they have a big “Get them while they’re gone/While supplies last” by all of the eye and cheek colors. So hopefully your current customers won’t wait too long before everything runs out (or give them a call to make them aware that you’re clearing out the color inventory and compacts).
What I did last week was make sure that I have product and full looks to fit into my compacts…i can always sell an eyeshadow without a compact, but I can’t sell a compact with nothing to put in it. I really like the idea of donating any leftover random colors. Either that or you can use them as free gifts for guests or different occasions. A free eyeshadow is always nice, even if you don’t have a fancy case for it. =]
i did not wear eyeliner today and i think i made for a softer daytime look. thanks for the hint!
Terri & Pynk Princess, I hadn’t realized I was starting a trend! LOL
Glad you liked the non-eyeliner look! I’m loving it!
Sabrina–excellent points about the discontinued line. That is great advice!
Kare–I started a new post all about ways to handle the situation you’ve brought up. I’m hoping for more input soon!
Great feedback. We have the same skincoloring and the same complaint about eyeliners! I have blonde hair and use the brown mascara with my liner. I now love the taupe, amethyst, olive and bronze and use the others occasionally.
This may not work for you, but a makeup artist showed me how to put them on, then blend them well with a stiffish brush. I use the one on the end of the brow brush in our set.
For some reason, I do not have good results when using shadows as liners. He also showed me that I need to use a brow powder to give my face a “frame” and it really helps keep things looking balanced.
I love the amethyst liner and steely. I may try your suggestion of blending with the liner brush. I have used shadow as a liner and it has to be done just perfectly or else it looks sloppy. It’s not an easy task!
Thanks again for your suggestions!
Since many like our “old” brushes…I devised a way to put both a mineral pressed powder, one blush and two eye colors in the NEW compact!
I love it! The pressed powder is on the LEFT where the magnetic area is…and I used one of the business card-sized magnets which I cut into two pieces and peeled off the paper and stuck one piece into the RIGHT side of the compact. That way I can “stick” (by magnetic force) the bluch and two eye colors! I use a small piece of pretty ribbon placed under the blush to help remove it easily! Works like a charm and this way ALL of my favorites are in ONE NEW compact!
You’re a real wizard with that adhesive magnet stuff! You go!
OOhhh smart move MKLady25.
I’m gunna have to dink around and see what I can come up with.
I LOVE the old brush set (the one from the leather-like pouch that came in the box not the organza bag). I take really really good care of them to be sure they last a LONG time.
I enjoyed your descriptions. Great makeup ideas! Did you know that mineral makeup has been around since the beginning of time?
