Great Article on Vision

This is an excellent article from Unit Coach that takes us back to the concept of vision and applying it to the future:
“Can You See Your Future?”
It doesn’t matter what your vision for the future is, what matters is what your vision does. A compelling vision will always pull you forward.
If you are trying to be better, faster, smarter, richer, thinner, more powerful, and more successful you do not have a vision.
By using today and the current conditions as a frame of reference for what you will have tomorrow, you are selling yourself short. It means you are tying tomorrow’s achievements to what you currently have. However, your desired future does not equal the past. In fact, it’s not even related to it. A vision is not an improvement; it is an ideal, a conception of something in its absolute perfection.
Your vision should involve possibilities, not just probabilities. A probability needs assurance that it will come to pass. Possibilities don’t have that requirement. Is it probable that you’ll be a multi-millionaire? Maybe not. But, is it possible? Of course it is.
If part of your vision includes the things you DON’T want, your vision lacks power.
Most of us have been raised to be problem solvers and spend our day in that pursuit - trying to make problems go away - which is both negative and reactive.
When we solve problems, we take action to make something go away, the “problem.” When we create, we take action to have something come into being - the creation. Visualizing that creation is absolutely key to creating a powerful and compelling goal.
A negative goal is not a very compelling target and it continually reminds you of something you want to forget. For instance, every time you think of a goal to “not work on Saturdays,” it reminds you that you are currently doing exactly that!
Your vision will be far more powerful if you make it positive, such as spending at least one weekend a month on a mini-vacation. It’s a target that draws you to it like a magnet. Examples:
Neg: I don’t want to have so many bills.
Pos: I want a positive bank balance and a life free of debt.
Neg: I don’t want to have a “job.”
Pos: I want a career and life’s work that is fulfilling.
Neg: I don’t want to (smoke, eat junk food, stay up late etc).
Pos: I want healthy lungs, to be fit, and feel rested.
Test your vision to see if it is positive. If it’s not, you’ll feel frustration. If it is, you’ll feel joy.
No go have a POWERFUL day!

Ann Vertel
