Heard It All?

Ever gone to meeting after meeting, listened to call after call, attended event after event; and felt like everything was so redundant? Does it ever feel disappointing when you attend an event or listen in on a conference call expecting to hear something amazing that will give you that breakthrough AHA moment only to reach an anticlimax of stuff you already know? Does this mean there’s no hope? Has every method been tried and failed? Is it time to throw in the towel and call it quits? Or, is it time to step back, reflect and really analyze what you’ve been doing all this time? I think it’s that last option. It’s time to re-evaluate the game plan and see what action is taking place.

Tonight I realized this for myself (again). We had a conference call for our local units. I jumped on the call expecting to hear something groundbreaking. I was a little disappointed, I’ll admit, that the info was tips on open houses, fish bowls, booking from classes, etc. I didn’t stay on the call. This made me realize something. I have the information and tools that I need to get my business off the ground! It’s time to move into action mode–full throttle! I need to start applying the things I’ve learned over the past 4½ years and see what works. When I try what I have been hearing over and over again and hit a road block, then it’s time to ask for some help. There really aren’t any magic words or secret method. It’s all about finding what works for me! In the words of Phyllis Sammons, “Figure it OUT!”

Does this mean skip meetings? No. I will attend my meetings to support others. I will force myself to make my calls so that I have something to report at meeting. If I’m doing the work and not seeing the results, then I need to get advice. Before I can get help, I need to know from experience what isn’t working.

One important piece of information I took away from that conference call was this: “have a sea of mentors.” Don’t expect to do everything alone. If sales are weak and you know someone in your unit who has amazing sales each week, go talk to her! Ask her what she’s doing. If you also find you have phone fear and you know someone who is always getting results on the phone, you guessed it, find out what she does to get over her fears. If you feel like you’ve heard it all, you really probably haven’t heard it all; however, you probably have sufficient tools to get on track!

    Shades,

I always heard that when we are bored or feel we could teach the class, it is time to promote yourself.

With that said, you have a lot of horse sense, smile.. good ole common sense.

Yes, it would be wonderful if there were this big secret, but no, we have to go through the hard knocks of experience and overcoming to lead and with the leading understanding, because you have been there and you know how to overcome.

I know you are a joy to your unit and Director.

I remember when I was waiting for the BIG secret too..LOL Its funny isnt it. Gloria Mayfield Banks said she remembers when she was trying to find out the secret and at a speech she did once she said “Do you all want to know what the secret is?” Everyone got excited and she said “There is no secret” its all in your consultants guide. This was before the Internet.

Yes Im 40 years old. Most of my friends are in their 20s and thirties. Shades thanks for the post I think that its refreshing.
