Know Your Product Series: Skin Care Cleansers

I’m going to start this series with the basics. It’s important to know what the skin care line does and what products work best for different skin types and conditions. This will help answer questions when people have rosacea, eczema, or other skin problems and what MK products can be recommended.
First, it is important to know that Mary Kay, Inc. tests all of its product line prior to marketing. If tests don’t show statistically significant results, the product simply will not be put on the market.
CLEANSERS
The Time Wise® 3-in-1 Cleanser cleanses, freshens, and tones in one step. It contains botanicals and humectants. Freshening brings skin’s PH level back to normal and reduces the appearance of pores. The Time Wise® Complex is patented and MKC keeps its ingredients under close wraps. It is the company’s best kept secret.
1. Time Wise® 3-in-1 Cleansing Bar: Safe for all skin types. This can be used as a body soap if so desired. Men typically love this product (except my husband–he prefers my cleanser). The new MK Men Line includes a bar for this reason.
2. Time Wise® 3-in-1 Cleanser (Normal/Dry): This formula is very similar to the original Time Wise® 3-in-1 Cleanser introduced in 1999 (if you were familiar with Mary Kay prior to 2005 when the line was split). It can be applied directly to the face because it is a creamy cleanser.
3. Time Wise® 3-in-1 Cleanser (Combination/Oily): This formula looks very different from the Normal/Dry. This cleanser is more like a gel, and therefore, must be applied to a wet face. Because of the consistency of this cleanser, the cap of the tube was improved so that the dispenser hole is smaller so less comes out.
*When holding appointments, reserve Combo/Oily for people who say they are extremely oily. If they aren’t sure about their skin type, start with Normal/Dry formula. If they try Combo/Oily and it feels too dry, it could turn them off of Time Wise.
4. Cleansing Cloths: These are great for people who are on the go, don’t have a lot of time, and/or travel a lot. Personally, I think these are perfect for the gym! These are also good to recommend to acne-prone individuals.
5. Velocity®: Good for teens and/or adults with acne-prone skin. Velocity® does not have age-fighting benefits. It is fragrant and this could cause problems in allergy-prone skin. Contains a heavier exfoliant than Time Wise®.
6. Extra-Emollient Cleansing Cream: This is recommended for those who have extremely dry skin. It contains a light fragrance.
7. Classic Basic Gentle Cleansing Cream Formula 1: This is for dry skin. It is an extremely gentle formula and, therefore, is also safe for the eye area. If a customer has an allergy to silicone, then Gentle Cleansing Cream can be recommended as an alternative to Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover. Gentle Cleansing Cream is also safe for people who suffer from rosacea or eczema. Note, it is not a treatment of these conditions, but is a safe cleansing product for them to use. Always advise those with skin conditions to consult with their dermatologist.
8. Classic Basic Creamy Cleanser Formula 2: This is for normal skin types. It is a great recommendation for people who are irritated by the Time Wise® Complex in Normal/Dry 3-in-1 Cleanser.
9. Classic Basic Deep CLeansing Cream Formula 3: Excellent for those with oily skin. This is a very deep clean.
